Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

Dear Parents/Carers

I am delighted to offer your son/daughter the opportunity of completing their Duke of

Edinburgh Bronze award at Crofton School. It is a challenging programme requiring

initiative, organisation and commitment to complete, but one which will be worthwhile and an excellent addition to take on to their future studies and employment.

The award is recognised by colleges, universities and employers, so it is a worthwhile

opportunity for you to consider making your child stand out during interviews and give them something extra to talk about and reflect upon.

The award is separated into four sections. Three sections (Volunteering, Physical and Skill) are each required to be completed for one hour per week over a three-month period with one of the three sections being carried out for a further three months. These must be organised by the participant and undertaken in their own time; lessons in the school day do not count. Each section requires evidence of completion over the period which may include photos/videos/logbooks etc and must include a self-reflection and Assessor’s report by an adult not related to the participant. It is the participant’s responsibility to ask the Assessor if they are happy to support them before they take part. Any further information can be found by going to www.dofe.org.

We are very lucky that we have many opportunities to complete each of the sections at

school with after school clubs and enrichment opportunities. The cost of the programme is £265. This includes the DofE enrolment fee, training and assessed expedition. We will be enrolling them to DofE in the New Year, once this has been completed £33 of the monies will be non-refundable.

To ensure that the commitment necessary to complete the Award is clearly understood,

please note carefully the dates below and the conditions which apply to joining the scheme:

Training weekend combined with assessed expedition Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd of

May 2026.

THIS WEEKEND IS COMPULSORY and failure to attend jeopardises completion of

the Award this year.

DofE at Crofton School is run in conjunction with Hampshire County Council Outdoor Education who are responsible for the training weekend and assessed expedition and members of Crofton School staff will also be present at the weekend.

Hampshire Outdoors will provide tents, stoves and gas for cooking. Students will normally provide their own kit; however, we have spare kit available that may be borrowed on request. The DofE kit list is attached, further advice to students will be given in due course. To participate in the Award this year your son/daughter must complete the Enrolment Form and Medical Form and return it to Finance at Crofton School by Friday 9th January 2026. Printed copies available by request from Mr West in S5.

I have included some links for your viewing:

I hope your son/daughter chooses to sign up to complete the Award and I look forward to working with them in the future.

Yours sincerely

Mr A West
