Dear Parents/Guardians
The Science Faculty is keen to provide opportunities for students to explore their interest in Science at a higher level. As part of this, we are very pleased to be able to invite your son/daughter to a 'GCSE Science Live' conference.
Venue: Brighton Dome, Brighton
Date: Tuesday 27 January 2026
Learning Outcomes: To hear talks by five leading Scientists including Professor Robert Winston, Professor Andrea Sella, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, Prof Gilly Forrester & Dr
Anna Polszajski.
The session also includes top tips on examination success from a lead GCSE Science Examiner. Students who have attended similar GCSE Science Live conferences in the past, have overwhelmingly fed back on how useful and interesting this experience has been.
There will be a group of 43 students with 4 members of staff. The group leader for the activity is Mr West.
Dress: School uniform
Transport: Coach
Time & place of departure: 08.00 from school
Anticipated return: 17.00-17.30 at school
Cost: £38
Cost to include: Transport, insurance and entrance fee.
Outline itinerary/details of activity: All students will need to meet outside Main Reception by 07.50 and we will be leaving school at 08.00; arrive at Brighton at 10.00; listen to guest speakers; lunch; listen to guest speakers; depart at 15.45; we expect to return by 17.00-17.30.
If you would like your child to go on the trip, please complete the online reply slip, that has been emailed to parents, and make payment by Wednesday 17th December 2025. The list of the students who want to go on the trip are taken from the payment list and not the completed reply slip.
(Please note: this is a voluntary contribution, but the trip will not go ahead if insufficient contributions are received. If paying for the trip is a problem, please contact Mr West, trip organiser)
Please note that unless otherwise stated, the initial emergency contact point at school will be Mrs Farrand. The leader of the trip will be contactable via the school mobile for emergencies (telephone number in email).
Additional details/requirements: Students will need to bring sufficient food and drink for the day.
Attendance on this trip is conditional on good attendance and behaviour in school. Should your son/daughter's behaviour or attendance fall below the expected standard, they will lose their place on the trip and any monies paid.
If your son/daughter's involvement in this activity affects deadlines in relation to the submission of work, they should inform the member of staff concerned.
