Transition 2026

Welcome to Year 7!
JOINING US IN SEPTEMBER 2026
At Crofton, we recognise that the move to secondary school is a major and memorable event in a young person's life. We aim to make the transition journey an enjoyable and informative experience. We know that it can be an anxious time and it is important to us that we prepare each young person fully so that they settle in quickly when they join us.
Once a Year 6 student has gained a place at Crofton School for the following September, the process of preparing for Induction will begin.
Moving from primary to secondary school is a huge milestone in a child’s life and we understand that some will have worries or anxieties about joining us. We work in partnerships with all the feeder schools to gather vital data ensure your son/daughter is visited by one of our team and some of our student Transition Leaders before the Transition Induction Days in July.
First day of school for all students:
Wednesday 2 September 2026 - all students start/return
Please note: Tuesday 1 September is an INSET DAY
New intake induction days:
Monday 6 July 2026
Tuesday 7 July 2026

We would love you to take part in our Summer Read 2026!
Against All Odds by Nathaniel Lessore
We are excited to share this year’s summer reading choice. This engaging and thought-provoking novel follows a young protagonist navigating challenges, friendships, and the pressures of growing up. Through humour and heartfelt moments, the story explores themes of resilience, identity, and perseverance, making it a fantastic and relatable read for our students.
We will be giving each student joining us a copy of the book during their transition days and will be doing some oracy work in their LRC lessons in September.
We encourage all pupils to read this book over the summer holiday. It offers a wonderful opportunity to:
-
Build reading confidence and enjoyment
-
Develop empathy and understanding through diverse characters
-
Be ready for discussions and activities when starting at Crofton in September
How you can support your child:
-
Encourage regular reading time in a relaxed setting
-
Talk about the story, characters, and key moments together
We look forward to hearing students’ thoughts and reflections on the book when they start with us!
Thank you, for your support in fostering a love of reading.
