How to Build a Town

A huge thank you to Fiona Gray from The Buckland Group for an inspiring visit to our school!

Our Year 10 Geography students loved learning about How to Build a Town, from planning a new garden village and designing sustainable communities, to understanding infrastructure, placemaking and long-term stewardship.

A brilliant insight into real-life geography and the many careers involved in shaping the places we live.

Please see the very interesting presentation from the lesson attached, which features information on the new local town which is currently being built between North Fareham and Wickham: Welborne. This is being created on a 1,000 acre site and will house a population of approximately 15,000.

This development will involve planting approximately 300,000 shrubs, 650 trees and building 6,000 new homes.

The planning for this began in 2006 and is estimated to take in excess of  another 20 years to complete.
