Year 11 Spring Core Exams

Dear Parents/Guardians

As you and your child are hopefully aware, Year 11 Spring Core examinations begin on Monday 23 February. The timetable for the final mock exams is shown below. We would like to ensure that students are preparing for these and are dedicating sufficient revision time for each subject. Students should discuss the topics with their class teacher and revise accordingly.

In previous years we have had a few issues with students not being fully equipped for their exams. Students need to bring all their equipment in a clear pencil case or plastic wallet. No equipment will be issued during the mock examinations, so it is advised that students have at least two black pens and spare pencils. Please be aware of the regulation changes regarding watches. To protect your child from accusation of malpractice, we have taken advice from the JCQ Malpractice Team and watches are not permitted in the exam hall. We have invested in larger, brighter clocks in all exam venues which are synchronised. These clocks are placed to ensure all students can clearly see the time from all areas of the exam venue.

Students will attend their tutor sessions for AM registration and be escorted to their exams. Where an exam starts after break, students should assemble on the tennis courts when the bell sounds. The exam schedule is outlined at the end of the letter.

For some exams there will be two tiers of entry. Students should refer to their statements of entry for the tier they will be sitting.

Under the Education Act 1996, section 444 (1), it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their child attends school regularly; this includes sitting all exams. Failure to comply with this could result in a penalty notice being issued. Please note there is no right of appeal if a penalty notice is issued.

Please do feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss the exams in more detail. If you need more detail about individual subjects, please contact your son/daughter’s class teacher.

Kind regards

Mrs W Wollaston
