Dear Parents and Carers,
We recently consulted you, along with staff and students, on proposals to update our school uniform that had arisen from student and parent feedback. We had a large response, and I am pleased to report that the majority from all three groups that consulted on the three proposed changes were in agreement, which we will now move forward on.
These were:
Students being able to wear the Crofton navy jumper instead of a blazer
Permitting the use of plastic retainers for nose piercings
Allowing colours of socks other than black
We also proposed simplifying the uniform by removing skirts from ‘optional’ items and replacing them with branded / single style trousers and offering a branded optional coat. Neither received significant support so we will not be moving ahead with these.
A wide range of other suggestions were made through the additional comments box. We will consider these for future consultations, however we are aware of the impact on parents of making significant changes to the school uniform and so will not be implementing any further changes for this academic year.
Crofton Governors have agreed to support these changes, so from 1 December 2025, we will be amending our school uniform rules as follows.
Students can wear a Navy pullover with embroidered school badge instead of a blazer
Students must wear one or the other unless excessively hot weather means we can move to shirts only.
Plastic retainers may be worn in the nose No other nose piercing jewellery is allowed. Other rules on jewellery remain unchanged ie no other jewellery should be worn, with the exception of a maximum of one pair of small, plain sleepers or studs in the ears.
Plain black, grey, or white socks may be worn
No other colours of socks are permitted. Natural skin tone or black tights may be worn.
The ‘Uniform and Equipment’ page of our website will be updated on 1 December 2025 to reflect these changes Uniform & Equipment | Crofton School. No other changes have been made to the school uniform; we expect students to wear this correctly as always.
We really appreciate your input into this process. There are a wide range of views on school uniform, and we hope that by consulting you and the students in this way, we will continue to have a Crofton uniform that fosters a sense of belonging to the school, is affordable, comfortable and reflects the high expectations we all have for our students.
Yours faithfully
Mr S Harrison
