Important Safeguarding alert for Parents/Carers
WhatsApp group warning
We have been made aware of a trending WhatsApp group operating under the name ‘Add 100’ (similar variations have also been used). Administrators or members are systematically adding large numbers of young people without their permission.
Two students in the local area recently reported being added to this group and shared that explicit and age-inappropriate content is actively being shared with members. Fortunately, these students recognised the danger and informed their parents.
What you should do with this information:
Talk to your child, ask them if they have been added to a group called ‘Add 100’ or any other unfamiliar group chat. Remind them they will not get into trouble for telling you about content they have inadvertently seen.
If your child is in this group, help them leave and then block and report the group admins.
Finally check and adjust if necessary, WhatsApp privacy settings, you can prevent non-contacts from automatically adding your child to group chats.
Open WhatsApp > Go to settings > Privacy > Groups, from here change the setting from Everyone to My Contacts (or My Contacts Except…)
Kind regards
