The Science Faculty is keen to provide opportunities for students to explore their interest in Science at a higher level. As part of this, we are very pleased to be able to invite your son/daughter to a ‘GCSE Science Live’ conference.
Venue: Beacon Theatre, Bristol
Date: Monday 9 February 2026
Learning Outcomes: To hear talks by five leading Scientists including Professor Robert Winston, Professor Andrea Sella, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, Professor Jim Al-Khalili
and Professor Sophie Scott.
The session also includes top tips on examination success from a lead GCSE Science Examiner. Students to have attended similar GCSE Science Live conferences in the past have overwhelmingly fed back on how useful and interesting this experience has been.
There will be a group of 43 students with 4 members of staff. The group leader for the activity is Mr West.
Dress: School uniform
Transport: Coach
Time & place of departure: 07.30 from school
Anticipated return: 18.45 at school
Cost: £38
Cost to include: Transport, insurance and entrance fee.
Outline itinerary/details of activity: All students will need to meet outside Main Reception by 07.20 and we will be leaving school at 07.30; arrive at Bristol by 10.30; listen to guest speakers; lunch; listen to guest speakers; depart at 15.45; we expect to return by 18.45.
If you would like your child to go on the trip, you should have completed the online reply slip and made payment by Wednesday 17 December 2025. The list of the students who want to go on the trip are taken from the payment list and not the completed reply slip. (Please note that this is a voluntary contribution but that the trip will not go ahead if insufficient contributions are received. If paying for the trip is a problem, please contact Mr West, trip organiser)
