I was delighted to be selected to attend the Parliament Teacher Ambassador programme and spent three incredible days learning about the intricacies of Parliament and how we can empower students to find their voice and develop a deeper understanding of parliamentary systems.
It was an exceptionally busy and enriching programme.
We toured the Palace of Westminster, including the Speaker’s House, and had the privilege of meeting Sir Lindsay Hoyle. We explored the Education Centre and the wide range of resources available for students, observed debates in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and toured the Supreme Court. In addition, we attended numerous talks from MPs, members of the House of Lords, a Doorkeeper, representatives from Select Committees, and the Petitions Committee.
One particular highlight was meeting our local MP, Caroline Dinenage, and sharing afternoon tea with her. It was inspiring to learn about her journey into politics and to discuss how we can work together to further develop parliamentary education at Crofton School.
I am very much looking forward to working with staff at Crofton to develop our PDL curriculum and to offer new and exciting opportunities for our students.
