Critical Worker / Vulnerable Children Provision

The Government has asked schools to make provision for children of Critical (Key) Workers and those children defined as vulnerable. The Government’s definition of these groups and

Since schools closed in March provision has been available in school for children of Critical Workers (previously known as Key Workers) and our most vulnerable students.

If you have not made use of this provision before and want to check if you are eligible please view the Government guidance on this here: provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

We continue to ask that, for children of Critical Workers, this provision only be used where students cannot remain safely at home.

The numbers of students accessing this provision has increased significantly since half term. In addition, there will be greater demand on school site facilities and staffing created by the return of Year 10 students from Monday 15 June. Therefore, we have had to review our approach to this provision and need to alert you to some changes in expectations and organisation in two important areas.

1: Booking a place for your child

*If you require a Keyworker place for w/b 06/7 please note that we are now at capacity and are sadly unable to offer places to you.*

Parents who would like their child to attend this provision need to request a place via our survey link weekly so that we have the most reliable information about who is expected on our school site for the following week. To support us in staffing our school, we would appreciate you completing the survey via the following link by 3pm every Thursday so that we can allocate places to children of key workers and those that are vulnerable. The link has been enabled for both mobile and desktop applications: Key Worker Support Survey

This system has been in place throughout the school closure period, and has worked well. However, an increasing number of students are arriving each day without any booking through this system. Previously we have had the staffing capacity to manage these unplanned for attendees, however this is no longer the case. I am sure you will understand that this is a safety issue, as we must be able to plan staffing in advance to ensure safe supervision of your child.

If your child’s place is correctly booked there will be no problem with providing a place in school. Should you encounter any problems with this system please let us know. However, where a student’s place has not been booked in advance via the survey link we may have no other option but to send those children home in order to maintain safe staffing levels in school.

2: Checking eligibility for Critical Worker Provision

With increasing student numbers and also the possibility that the classification of Critical Workers may change as more workplaces open, from Monday 15 June we will require evidence of Critical Worker status. I therefore need to ask that proof of critical worker status is sent to us at your earliest convenience, so that we can confirm this for you. A photograph of a workplace I.D. badge or letter from your employer, clearly showing a job that fits the Government Critical Worker categories, is all that is required.

Please send this evidence, and any other communications relating to this provision to .

Further information can be found here: Closure of Educational Settings

By making these changes we are confident we will be able to continue offering it to all those students who require it, for as long as Government guidelines deem this to be necessary.

Yours faithfully,

Mr J Ainsworth
