Hampshire Schools Cross Country ChampionshipsThe following students represented Gosport and Fareham in the Hamsphire Schools Cross Country Championships on Wednesday 25th Feb 09:
Year 7: Matt Tarrant, Josh Brett, Lauren Mc Carthy Well done to all runners on being selected to represent Gosport and Fareham in the event. A special congratulations goes to Joe Riley who finished 10th in his race (of 200 runners!) and will represent Hampshire on Saturday 28th Feb in the 'Southern Counties' Cross Country Championships in Kent. Charity Netball ChallengeFriday 16th Jan: The Netball Challenge took place in the Sports Hall. Some of the Year 11 rugby team challenged the year 11 netball team to a netball match: The YMCA Boyz vs The Pink Ladies. The match was 2 X 10 minute halves and was refereed by Mr Deering and Miss Unwin. The score was 4 - 4 so a re-match may be imminent... Over £100 was raised through this event and the charity Penalty Shoot-Out, which will go towards the re-decoration of the Sports Hall changing rooms. The Student Leadership team have also donated £1000 towards this project and the PE department and Sports Council would like to thank them for this. AthleticsOn Saturday, 22nd November 2008 Miss Knight and Mrs Cope travelled to Aldershot with three very talented female athletes. The athletes competed in the Regional Round of the National Schools Biathlon Championships (Swimming and Running). The top two athletes from each age group went on to qualify for the National Finals in Crystal Palace, so the standard was really high. Emily Woolnough (Year 10) came fourth overall in her age group. She won her run but was narrowly beaten in her swim and was therefore placed fourth overall. Laura Strudley (Year 9) came fifth in her age group. Olivia Russell (Year 10) came twelfth in her age group. All athletes performed extremely well. A big congratulations on behalf of the PE Department. NetballAll four netball teams did extremely well in their leagues this year. The Year 7 team, only selected this term, dominated their league, winning every game and finished the season at the top of their table. The Year 8 girls narrowly missed out on winning their league on goal difference, coming a very commendable second place, having put in some fantastic performances. The girls from Year 9 played some excellent games and were rewarded for their fantastic effort by gaining the otp place in their league table. Year 10 and 11 girls came up agaist some tough teams and played with excellent effort and great teamwork and as a result were awarded third place in their league. A very big congratulations to all those girls involved in the teams. Miss Unwin and Mrs Cope are looking forward to working with you for further success in next years' leagues! A big thanks also goes to Alisha Hill and Shannen O'Sullivan for leading some of the training sessions for the Year 7 and 8 teams. They did an excellent job and not only helped to improve their netball game but improved their own coaching skills in the process. Sporting SuccessWhile most of us were relaxing during the summer holidays (2008), Josie Latimer (11HD) was working hard on the badminton courts! Josie competed in the UK School Games which were held in Bristol last August and was up against tough rivals, some of which were a year older than her. Despite this, she gained a creditable third position overall which is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations Josie! You can catch up with Josie at the badminton club on Fridays after school; watch her demonstrations and benefit from some of her excellent coaching.
