Crofton School opened in 1974 as a purpose-built mixed comprehensive school with an intake of six tutor groups. The school’s population has now grown and now have eight tutor groups in each of the five years. Generations of young people have benefited from an outstanding education in this special place – we are acutely conscious of past achievements and determined that our current students should enjoy an experience of even higher quality.

As a school, we are motivated by a sense of the moral seriousness of what schools do; by a conviction that education, while important, should also be fun; by a belief that schools should be inclusive places in which everyone is equally valued; and by a determination that we should not tolerate underachievement. We are a happy and ambitious school, excited about the future of education and determined to become ‘outstanding’. Our exam results are well above the national average but we also pride ourselves in placing a strong emphasis on the concept of the school as a community, where we recognise the importance of the individual, but at the same time are sympathetic and understanding of the needs of others.

Whilst we are proud of what the school is, we are also excited about what it can become. Students, staff, governors and friends have spent time developing and agreeing the following:

Our vision for the future

We want to become an outstanding school, at which:

  • There is no bullying or unkindness; people are allowed to be themselves
  • Students make impressive progress, whatever their ability
  • Students’ individual needs are carefully identified, understood and catered for
  • The curriculum is relevant, ambitious, varied and stimulating; science has a special place in it and permeates the whole life of the school
  • Students become autonomous, independent learners
  • Students become good citizens, aware of their responsibilities and rights
  • Learning is genuinely valued and genuinely fun; students and staff are expert at it
  • Everyone (students, staff, parents and friends) feels valued and included
  • Students are well-prepared for adult life in a time of rapid and unpredictable change

DDA Compliance

At Crofton School we are committed to providing a fully accessible environment which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social and emotional needs.

If you are due to visit the school and have any special requirements (wheelchair access, hearing loops etc), please do contact us ahead of your visit so that we may ensure adequate provision for you.

We are also committed to educating our school and community with regard to disability and accessibility and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.

Specialist Science College

We are developing the natural links between Science and Mathematics, and the other subject areas. Scientific literacy and numerical reasoning help our students better understand the issues facing the modern world and make them more employable.

We offer enrichment activities, not only for our pupils but also for members of our local community and partnership schools, providing opportunities to have their lives enriched by their involvement in the Science College venture.
