About Us

Crofton School opened in 1974 as a purpose-built comprehensive school with an intake of six First Year Tutor Groups of boys and girls. The school’s population has now grown to 1,000 students with seven tutor groups in each of the five years. The spacious site is partly wooded and landscaped.

science collegeWe are a school with forwardthinking ideas based on traditional values. We have recently achieved Specialist College Status in Science and Mathematics and that is bringing an exciting dimension to the life and resources of the school.

Crofton is an 11-16 Foundation School, serving around one thousand students from Stubbington and the surrounding area; it is small enough to retain the personal touch but large enough to be well-resourced. It has an ordered, purposeful and happy atmosphere. The school enjoys a reputation for both academic success and for caring relationships.

At Crofton, we believe that every single person matters and that our school community, as a whole, matters. We strive to ensure that every student:

• Enjoys their experience with us and achieves in a wide variety of ways;
• Develops the skills to make healthy choices and to remain healthy;
• Stays safe;
• Makes a positive contribution to our community and to our environment, being enterprising in his or her approach;
• Benefits from a high quality and well-rounded education enabling him or her to achieve economic stability through further education, training and employment beyond school.

We pride ourselves that pupils leaving Crofton are equipped with the necessary skills to be active citizens in a changing technological world. There is a positive learning environment in the school. We support, guide and care for all members of the school, students and staff, so that each one has his or her needs met in order to
achieve. This supportive ethos has recently been recognised in the Healthy Schools Award and by the Investors in People organisation.

Specialist Science College

We are developing the natural links between Science and Mathematics, and the other subject areas. Scientific literacy and numerical reasoning help our students better understand the issues facing the modern world and make them more employable.

We offer enrichment activities, not only for our pupils but also for members of our local community and partnership schools, providing opportunities to have their lives enriched by their involvement in the Science College venture.
